LAAUW: Empowering Women Since 1881!

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) empowers women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Our nonpartisan, nonprofit organization has more than 170,000 members and supporters across the United States, as well as 1,000 local branches and 800 college and university partners. Since AAUW’s founding in 1881, our members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political.

Mission
AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.

Value Promise
By joining AAUW, you belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women and girls have a fair chance.

Vision
AAUW empowers all women and girls to reach their highest potential.

Diversity Statement
AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin,
disability, or class.

AAUW presents a free online salary negotiation course (approximately one hour) to acquire fair and equal pay. Now that you have some extra time at home, this would be a great opportunity to actually take one or both of the courses! Recognize your own self-worth and get the tools you need to successfully negotiate and close the pay gap! This is a great resource for you to share with friends and family members, including granddaughters (and grandsons!). While it’s true that you might not need the information for yourself, becoming familiar with how it works and the content will help you share it with others. 176,000 people have already taken the workshop! Unless things change, the pay gap will not close until 2106 (that’s 85 years).
